At times, our
stomach is full up to the brim, but when someone calls out the name of our
favorite dish, no matter how full we may be, we make some space in our system
to relish a bit of that culinary dish. And, when you live in a city like Delhi
whose streets sprawl with an exuberant range of majestic delights and hip
restaurants serving the best of North Indian and South Indian food items,
there’s no saying ‘No.’
If you’re a
foodie like me, I’m sure you’ll relate to these delve into delicious Indian
dishes.
Choley Bhaturey
Originally
hailing from the streets of Punjab, Choley Bhaturey are an integral part of
Delhi’s morning breakfast menu. A combination of chana masala and bhaturey
served with mint chutney, onion slivers, and assorted pickles, it’s a marvelous
way to give your empty stomach relish a lip-smacking morning meal. Many North Indian Restaurants in Delhi NCR serve choley with a variety of different types
of bhaturey – stuffed with cottage cheese, potatoes and so on. While there are
many who even offer Puri instead of bhaturey, all in all, it’s a classic way to
treat your palate.
Gajjar Ka Halwa
Though a
seasonal sweet dish, its popularity amid Delhiites is humongous. Prepared with
grated carrots, milk, sugar, ghee and khoya it’s cooked on low fire that gives
it its fantastic taste. When served hot, Gajjar Ka Halwa is garnished with
various dry fruits which simply add to its already amazing flavor. Where to
relish it? Best Bikanervala restaurant! No one in the city offers a taste like
this leading sweets and namkeen brand does.
Chaat
This makes for
an entirely separate food menu. Form crispy Pani Puris to Dahi Bhalla, Papdi
Chaat, Aloo Tikki and many more savory variants, each of these is simply irresistible.
Sweet, tangy, crispy and piping hot, the taste of each of these is marvelous.
Dare you stop after one!
Pav Bhaji
Yet another
popular dish, hailing from the streets of Mumbai, Pav bhaji is more than a just
a snacking item. It’s a quick meal that can be eaten at any point of time of
the day. A pure amalgamation of a variety of healthy vegetables and authentic
Indian spices, Bhaji is a wholesome food in itself. Served hot with buttery
Pav, it’s a classic cuisine that humbly irresistible!
Kheer
Kheer is one
such sweet desert that’s prepared on almost all festivals or auspicious
occasions across the North Indian states. Loaded with the goodness of sweetened
milk with rice or other variants and the richness of dry fruits, Kheer is a
pure delight for the taste buds. Rice Kheer of Kheer’s many variants is the
most famous one.
Rajma Chawal
If Choley
Bhaturey is considered as Delhi’s breakfast glee, Rajma Chawal makes for an
ideal lunching item. Simple, yet delightful, Rajma Chawal is quite famous amid
all age groups. Even I go crazy (starry eyes) when someone mentions – Rajma
Chawal. Wow!
The list doesn’t
end here. Dal Makhni, Dum Aloo, Kulfi Faluda, Dal Bati, Idli Sambhar, Vada Pav,
Poha, Channa Masala, and Tandoor Chicken are other to-die-for dishes the National
Capital is famous for!
